Description
Product information "BC Garn Semilla Melange GOTS - 04 Anthracite"
BC Garn Semilla Melange GOTS yarn is a lofty, worsted-spun sheep’s wool yarn in muted shades: cables and stranded colourwork come out clearly defined. It is often used to knit jumpers, cardigans and sleeveless jumpers.
Which season is this wool suitable for?
The warm knitted fabric is suitable for cool weather. After hand washing in cold water, the stitches even out and the fabric becomes softer; dry it flat.
How many balls do you need for a jumper?
The exact amount depends on the size and pattern, so check the number of balls against the pattern. Knitters usually choose 3.5–4 mm circular needles; for a DK pattern, compare the yarn thickness, stitches per 10 cm and needle size with the specifications, and adjust the needle size if they differ.
Is the wool mulesing-free?
The wool comes from farms that do not practise mulesing; the yarn is GOTS-certified. The certification also covers the production stages, including dyeing.
Before knitting, rewind the yarn into a ball, make a tension square and wash it. If you need a finer yarn for your next project, you can choose an option from other BC Garn yarns.

Like many others, I bought some to try and I'm delighted. Before that, I'd bought lots of Bio Shetland for a sweater, but now I've fallen in love with this yarn and am even thinking of changing my mind and knitting it in Melange. In short, I'm delighted. I used 4 mm needles and everything came out beautifully; I don't think you need to go smaller.

I chose the Denim shade for a men's sweater in size M. I was very surprised by the yarn's thickness when it arrived. On 3.75 mm needles, the swatch came out semi-transparent, even though I knit very tightly and form the stitches right at the needle tip. I had to use two strands on the same needles and order more. It took 12 hanks. Three of the 12 hanks had several knots, but I easily felt-spliced the ends. The sweater came out dense and coarse; after washing and blocking, it became soft and slightly fluffy, and the colour became lighter. The garment stretched, but after drying it returned to almost its original size! A miracle! Now I realise I would knit the sweater with a single strand on 2.5–2.75 mm needles. I'll make one for myself that way with the same yarn later. Despite the minor annoyances, I liked it. P.S. I was tempted to keep the sweater instead of giving it as a gift. Oversized garments look especially good in this yarn!

I bought 1 hank in the gorgeous Green Spruce shade for gloves. For a 19 cm hand, one hank was enough, with a little left over. The yarn is very pleasant; after washing it fluffed up and became even softer! A pleasure to knit with!

I bought 1 hank to try it out. I knitted men's gloves on 2.75 mm needles (I knit loosely), and it was just enough, with a tail of about 15 cm left. After washing, the yarn bloomed and developed a slight halo. Washing and blocking didn't change the size significantly: the gloves neither shrank nor stretched. I think they're just right as an autumn accessory!

I bought this yarn for a hat and ended up knitting one with cables and Aran patterns, using just one hank! That is really great. I knitted the ribbing on 3.5 mm needles and the main fabric on 4 mm needles. The hat isn't for our St Petersburg winter, of course, but it will do for spring) The yarn itself is very pleasant to work with, reasonably thick yet very light. Washing and blocking with lanolin soap didn't produce any drastic changes. I really enjoyed working with it and recommend it.

Coarse to the touch, but it blooms after washing. Although it is 100% wool, it isn't scratchy at all. I'm knitting a child's sweater: excellent! And thank you to the shop for such wonderful yarn!

I was looking for yarn for a cardigan with a landscape design in size 58–60. So I wanted a yarn that was light, warm, not scratchy, wouldn't shrink in the wash and had a wide colour palette. I liked working with it, although its initial appearance didn't inspire me, and I still had to wind all the hanks. I used 3 and 3.25 mm needles. When dampened, the knitted fabric stretched slightly and the yarn opened out.

This yarn came to me as a sample... Colour 17... At first it seemed rather coarse, and I decided to knit a swatch just out of curiosity... After washing and blocking, the colour looked livelier and it felt softer; the yarn really bloomed... I liked it... I'm already thinking of a project for it... I'd like to point out to anyone ordering from the website for the first time that the colours aren't quite true to life...
