Novita 7 Veljestä Jättiraita is a wool and polyamide yarn for striped socks: the multicoloured pattern develops as you knit. The yarn is also suitable for children’s clothing.
Will the stripes form on their own?
Yes, the stripes appear without changing yarn, and the colour pattern develops directly in the knitted fabric. You don’t need to alternate shades between rows.
Will the yarn be durable enough for socks?
Polyamide adds abrasion resistance to the yarn, which is why it is chosen for socks. Knitters use different needle sizes; start with 3.5–4 mm circular needles. Compare the yarn thickness, tension and needles specified in the pattern with the yarn specifications; if the tension differs, adjust the needle size.
Will one ball be enough for a pair of socks?
One ball is enough for a pair of standard-length socks. Wool can felt with friction in warm water, so wash the finished item gently.
Before you begin, knit and wash your tension square to check the tension. If you need a solid-colour yarn for another project, there are also other Novita yarns.
