At first glance, this appears to be a simple 2×2 ribbed hat. However, the secret to its perfect fit and attractive appearance lies in the crown.

    You will need:

    • 1 skein of 100% cashmere Kremke Eco Cashmere yarn (225m/50g)
    • 3mm circular needles (or needles of your size to match the specified gauge)
    • Double-pointed needles of the same size
    • A yarn needle

The ribbing gauge, in an unstretched (relaxed) state, is 24 stitches over 33 rows.

Use 3mm needles or needles that match the gauge of 2.4 stitches and 3.3 rows per 1 cm.

    Sizes:

    • Size 1 for a head circumference of 52 -54 cm – 96 stitches
    • Size 2 for a head circumference of 56-58 cm – 108 stitches

    Beginning:

Cast on 97/109 stitches using the German twisted cast on (it’s elastic and won’t tighten the initial knitting row) and join the stitches in the round.

With 96/108 stitches on the needles, knit in a 2×2 rib pattern for a height of 21 – 22 cm.

Adjust the height of the hat as desired, depending on the desired crown height. Then begin the decreases.

    Decreases:

Divide 96/108 stitches into 8 wedges / 9 wedges using 8/9 markers, with 12 stitches in each wedge. Place markers so that they are positioned between two knit stitches.

    Decreases for 96/108 stitches.

Row 1: 1 knit stitch, 2 purl stitches, 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch – knit according to the pattern; slip 1 knit stitch onto the right needle , turn the stitch backward and place it back onto the left needle, then insert the right needle into 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch, knit these two stitches together with a left slant; insert the right needle into the next two stitches from left to right and knit 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 80 stitches on the needles / 90 stitches.

Row 2: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 3: 1 knit stitch, 2 purl stitches, 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, insert the right needle into the next 2 knit stitches from left to right and knit them together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 72 stitches on the needles / 81 stitches.

Row 4: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 5: 1 knit stitch, 2 purl stitches, 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches, insert the right needle into the next 2 knit stitches from left to right and knit them together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 64 stitches on the needles / 72 stitches.

Row 6: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 7: 1 knit stitch, 2 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, knit according to the pattern, slip 1 knit stitch onto the right needle, turn the stitch backward and place it back onto the left needle, then insert the right needle into 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch, knit these two stitches together with a left slant, insert the right needle into the next 2 stitches from left to right and knit 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 48 stitches on the needles / 54 stitches.

Row 8: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 9: 1 knit stitch, 2 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, insert the right needle into the next 2 knit stitches from left to right and knit them together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 40 stitches on the needles / 45 stitches.

Row 10: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 11: 1 knit stitch, insert the right needle into the next 2 knit stitches from left to right and knit them together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 32 stitches on the needles / 36 stitches.

Row 12: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 13: Slip 1 knit stitch onto the right needle, turn the stitch backward and place it back onto the left needle, then insert the right needle into 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch, knit these two stitches together with a left slant, insert the right needle into the next 2 stitches from left to right and knit 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch together with a right slant marker* repeat 7 more times / 8 times; Check: 16 stitches on the needles / 18 stitches.

Row 14: Knit without decreases according to the pattern.

Row 15: Knit 2 knit stitches together with a right slant (by inserting the right needle into 2 knit stitches from left to right) Check: 8 stitches on the needles / 9 stitches.

Row 16: Knit 2 knit stitches together with a right slant; Check: 4 stitches on the needles / 5 stitches.

You can simply pull the stitches tight and secure the end. However, it will look nicer if you wrap 3 knit stitches / 4 knit stitches together, pull tight, and tuck in the end.

    Moisture-Heat Treatment:

Wash in cool water up to 30 degrees Celsius with a detergent that does not contain lanolin. Gently massage the item without stretching or twisting it. Rinse carefully and gently squeeze out excess water. Spread the heavily dampened item on a towel horizontally. Roll the towel and the item into a roll, pressing out excess water with gentle movements. Unroll the towel, shape the item to its original form (without stretching it widthwise; the hat will stretch on the head anyway), and leave it on a horizontal surface until completely dry.

Done! Now you have the softest cashmere hat. Enjoy!

Important Notice: The verified yarn facts list the composition as 100% Acrylic and recommended needles from 4.5 mm to 5 mm, which do not match the pattern’s specified 100% cashmere yarn and 3mm needles.
