Sizes
Foot Circumference:
- 21 cm (S)
- 23 cm (M)
- 25 cm (L)
Materials and Needles
- Circular needles on a long cable (80-100 cm) with a diameter of 2–2.25 mm or HiyaHiya Flyers needles (set of three needles)
- Aiguille à tapisserie
- Tape measure for taking measurements (calculating gauge)
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Hollywool blockers for drying socks
Jauge
Jauge: 32 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm). Gauge is determined on a circular sample knitted in stockinette stitch. To make calculations more comfortable, cast on 60-66 stitches, knit 20 rows, then wash and let the sample dry completely. If you have fewer stitches, use smaller diameter needles. If more, use larger diameter needles.
Détails du modèle
The socks are knitted one at a time using the Magic Loop method. For knitting with double-pointed needles, you will need to distribute the stitches yourself. In the description, "lower needle" refers to the one closer to you.
Cast on 56/64/72 + 1 stitch for joining in the round – on 2 needles or on 1 needle, but not tightly. The cast-on edge should be very loose. Distribute 28/32/36 stitches on each needle, join in the round. Knit 8 rows in 3×1 ribbing (3 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch).
The ankle is made with 3×1 ribbing and the "False Cable" pattern: Slip 1 knit stitch, 1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over, 1 knit stitch, then pass the slipped stitch over these three knit stitches, 1 purl stitch. The number of stitches remains the same. The pattern chart is provided in the pattern. Throughout the sock, the pattern will decrease: initially, there will be 7 repeats of the pattern on the ankle, then every 20 rows the number of repeats will symmetrically decrease on both sides to 3. During the toe gusset decreases, there will be 2 repeats of the pattern, and along the length of the foot only 1 repeat.
For your socks, you may choose not to use this pattern or simply knit the socks in 3×1 ribbing.
Heel Flap
The heel flap is knitted back and forth on the stitches of the lower needle: 28/32/36 stitches. Rows alternate knit and purl with slipped edge stitches. Continue for a total of 28/32/36 rows, resulting in 14/16/18 edge stitches.
Heel Cup
The heel cup is worked with short rows shaping the heel cup by knitting knit 2 together with left slant and purl 2 together with purl stitches, turning the work accordingly. The number of rows depends on the size.
Heel Gusset Decreases
Incorporate all stitches (both needles). Knit the "False Cable" pattern only 2 repeats wide, the rest of the stitches in 3×1 ribbing. Slip the edge stitch, knit half of heel stitches, and distribute the stitches on the needles as instructed. Continue with decreases every other row until there are 28/32/36 stitches on both needles, maintaining the "False Cable" pattern (2 repeats wide).
Foot
Continue knitting straight without decreases for a length 3.5/4.5/5.5 cm shorter than the desired foot length. Knit the "False Cable" pattern only 1 repeat wide (closer to the gusset of the foot) and knit it another 4/4/5 times, then transition to the 3×1 ribbing pattern on all stitches of the central part of the foot.
Toe
Knit 2 rows with knit stitches. In the 2nd row, mark with markers the 2 central stitches on each needle. Begin shaping the toe with decreases on specific rows as detailed. Finish by sewing the remaining stitches with a tapestry seam, hiding tails, and performing Wet Finishing (WFT). Use Hollywool sock blockers to shape the socks.
