- Decrease with left slant (referred to as “decrease”): knit 2 sts together through the back loop.
Beret
Cast on 104 sts + 1 edge st on 3.5 mm needles for joining in the round, set the beginning-of-round marker (BOR), and knit 1×1 rib for 3 cm.
Next, distribute sts into 8 sectors. To do this, knit 1 row in stockinette stitch, placing markers every 13 sts. A total of 8 markers on needles (including BOR).
Switch to 4 mm needles.
1st row: 13 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
2nd row: all knit sts
3rd row: 14 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
4th row: all knit sts
5th row: 15 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
6th row: all knit sts
7th row: 16 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
8th row: all knit sts
9th row: 17 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
10th row: all knit sts
11th row: 18 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
12th row: all knit sts
13th row: 19 knit sts, increase, repeat until end of row
14th row: all knit sts.
A total of 160 sts on needles. Continue knitting in stockinette stitch without increases to a height of 10-12 cm from the cast-on edge.
Shaping Decreases
Begin decreases at the end of each sector every other row (every 2nd row).
1st row: 18 knit sts, decrease, repeat until end of row
2nd row: all knit sts
3rd row: 17 knit sts, decrease, repeat until end of row
4th row: all knit sts
Continue until only 8 sts remain on the needles.
As necessary, switch to double-pointed needles or needles with a long cable and continue knitting using the magic loop method.
You can gather the stitches of the beret and attach a pompom or knit a “beeper”.
Beeper
On the needles, 8 sts. Decrease the stitches by half (knit all sts 2 together), place them on one needle and knit a hollow cord. Without turning the knitting, knit 6 rows of knit sts, then knit all 4 sts together and hide the tail inside the “beeper”.
Snood
For the snood, use needles 0.5 mm smaller than those used for the beret.
Cast on 126 sts + 1 edge st on 3.5 mm needles for joining in the round, set the beginning-of-round marker (BOR), and knit in the “Rice” pattern to a height of 40 cm.
Bind off the stitches loosely without tightening the edge.
Conseils d'entretien
Wash organic wool with a special wool product containing lanolin.
In warm water (30 degrees), soak the item for 10-15 minutes and gently rinse. Do not wring; press out the water in a towel.
Lay flat to dry.
Beret Life Hack
To give the beret the right shape, dry it on a plate: place the beret on a plate with a diameter similar to the beret’s (about 25 cm). Place the plate on a cup or mug to avoid creases.
