Work Description
The socks are knitted top-down using the Magic Loop method with a reinforced heel, gusset lift, and propeller toe.
The description includes three options for the cuff: 3×3 ribbing, stockinette stitch with a hem, and stockinette stitch with picots at the edge. The height of the leg can vary as you wish.
The description is written for the Magic Loop method; if desired, the socks can be knitted on double-pointed needles, redistributing stitches accordingly.
Cuff Options
First option: 3×3 ribbing. Knit 8-10 rows of 3×3 ribbing (3 knit, 3 purl) with the main yarn.
Second option: Stockinette stitch with a hem. Cast on stitches with waste yarn. Then introduce the main yarn and knit 16 rows in stockinette stitch. Undo the waste yarn cast on and transfer the stitches to additional needles. Fold the cuff in half (stockinette stitch on the outside) and knit a row of knit stitches, knitting together a stitch from the main and the stitch from the waste yarn needles. This creates a double-layered stockinette stitch cuff. Recheck the stitches; their count should be the same as you initially cast on.
Third option: Stockinette stitch with a hem and picot. Cast on the required number of stitches on waste yarn. Introduce the main color yarn and knit 8 rows in stockinette stitch. On the 9th row, execute the pattern: yarn over, knit 2 together – repeat from * to * to the end of the row. Knit another 8 rows in stockinette stitch (knit the yarn overs as normal knit stitches, not twisted). Remove the waste yarn and transfer the open stitches to additional needles. Fold the cuff in half with the purl side inside and knit the stitches together knitwise (stitches from the main needle and stitch from the waste yarn needle).
Jambe
Before starting the leg, check the number of stitches on the needles (there should be as many as you cast on at the beginning of the work). If necessary, redistribute the stitches on the needles as follows (this is for knitting convenience): 30/24 (30) 30/36 (36).
Knit one row with knit stitches. Then begin knitting the main pattern according to the chart. The pattern repeat is shown in full (6 stitches * 8 rows). Adjust the height of the leg to your preference. In the description, 5 pattern repeats are knitted.
Heel Flap and Heel Cup
Before beginning the heel flap for sizes 34-36 and 43-45, redistribute the stitches by shifting the beginning of the round. On the first needle, the heel flap is worked; the second needle does not participate in this stage.
Next, knit the reinforced heel flap, following the row instructions and repeat rows until the heel flap is the specified height.
For the heel cup, divide the stitches into three parts with markers and knit following the instructions, decreasing as specified until the correct number of stitches remain.
Gusset and Foot
After knitting the heel flap and cup, proceed to knit the gusset of the foot. Continue knitting the leg pattern on the top of the foot and knit the bottom part of the foot in stockinette stitch.
Follow the detailed row instructions for the gusset shaping, placing markers and performing decreases as described.
After all decreases, knit the sock to the required foot length, with the bottom in stockinette stitch and top according to the pattern.
Toe
After knitting the foot length, start knitting the toe with specific preparation rows and decrease rows according to size. Continue decreases until 8 stitches remain, then finish by closing the stitches with a double draw-through. Secure yarn and weave in ends. Knit the second sock the same way.
Wet Heat Treatment
Weave in the ends. Perform wet heat treatment by carefully washing the socks in cool water with a special detergent (we recommend Hollywool solid or liquid soap with lanolin). Remove excess water with a terry towel and lay flat to dry in a ventilated room away from heat sources. Use Hollywool sock blockers when drying to give your items a perfect shape.
