MERINO HAT
DOUBLE CAMEL
Sizes: head circumference 52-54 cm; 55-57 cm
Finished dimensions: Height: 23-24 cm (can be adjusted as desired)
Width: 20-22 cm (depending on gauge)
Materials:
- 2 skeins of Onion Camel Merino (70% merino, 30% camel)
- Circular needles 40 cm long from 3.5 mm to 4 mm (depending on your gauge)
- Double-pointed needles or circular needles on a long cable (if using the magic loop method)
- Markers (5 pcs)
- Scissors
- Needle or hook to tuck in ends
- Row counter
Gauge:
- 18-19 sts x 28 rows
- 16-17 sts x 26 rows
Size Recommendations:
If you are knitting the hat for size 52-54, follow the instructions for a gauge of 18-19 sts in 10 cm; for size 55-57, 16-17 sts in 10 cm. Choose needle sizes from 3.5 to 4.5 mm.
Used Patterns and Techniques:
- Cast-on stitches using a waste yarn or open cast-on
- Stockinette stitch in the round: all knit sts
Necessary Skills:
- Right-slanting decrease (“right decrease”): Knit 2 sts together through the front (right) loop. In turning rows (when knitting the crown), turn the sts right side facing.
- Left-slanting decrease (“left decrease”): Knit 2 sts together through the back (left) loop. Turn the sts left side facing.
Workflow:
Cast on 80 sts using waste yarn.
Mark the beginning of the round and knit in stockinette stitch in the round to a height of 18-19 cm. Be sure to count rows so that the number of rows in both halves of the hat is the same.
Decreases:
For convenience, switch to double-pointed needles or needles on a long cable. Place markers (M1, M2, M3, M4) as follows:
Marker at the beginning of the round (MBR), 10 knit sts, M1 (place marker), 20 knit sts, M2, 20 knit sts, M3, 20 knit sts, M4, 10 knit sts.
We have divided into 4 sectors of 20 sts each (excluding the beginning-of-round marker). Decreases will be made along these markers.

19th row: All stitches in knit.
Then gather the crown, tuck in the ends. The first half of the hat is now complete.
Second Half of the Hat:
Unravel the waste yarn, lift the stitches onto the needles, and knit the second half of the hat in the same manner as the first.
Important: In the middle of the hat (where the second skein is joined), there will be yarn tails. Tuck them in before starting the decreases, as it will not be possible to do so later.
Tuck the yarn tail at the second crown inside the hat.
Wet Heat Treatment:
Soak the finished hat in a warm lanolin-containing soap solution (Hollywool) for 10-15 minutes, gently rinse. Squeeze the hat in a towel without twisting. Lay flat to dry. Once dry, tuck the second part of the hat inside.
